I have been a self taught bassist since around 2003. I took a few lessons early on, but it wasn't financially sustainable for my parents at the time. The teacher was cool, but mostly just had me pick songs to learn (something I was already doing on my own). I'm sure he'd have done more, but I was young and didn't know what I was looking for exactly.
I played in a few bands with friends over the years, from metal, prog rock, indie, and pop punk stuff. I also played guitar for a few years in a band, and prior to bass I played saxophone in school for 4 years. I know some music basics, but not a ton in the context of my instrument now.
I took a few years off starting in 2020, sold all of my gear, didn't play at all. Personal story there, but i'm back at it again now. I was considering in-person lessons as well as online classes. The latter are appealing money wise, but I'd really enjoy a mentor and someone to hold me accountable. I want to learn more music theory as it applies to bass.
Any suggestions for not just good players who give lessons, but decent teachers in the area? I'm on the eastside of Cincinnati.
Or if you think going the online route, like bassbuzz, is the optimal solution for a refresh / dive into more music theory, i'm open to it.
