Looking for advice on an ampeg SVT 4 pro

I asked about this,no one answered. Looking at a manual (not sure of its the same as an older model) it says the speakon output jacks are all wired the same as the momo output (1+ 1-) or do I have the wrong) I rewired a cable just for the mono output if I need it. I ran 2 cabs, one doesn't have a speakon on it so I used a 1/4 off one channel and a speakon off the other, I heard no vol difference.

I really appreciate all your help with this. This amp is awsome but strange. It's funny, I got it on a whim as my GKs weren't loud enough but I really want a tube head again. I keep thinking classic, but I hear the heritage are better built and the VR has 2 channels! Our local tech, who is a renowned tube guy told me that to a degree the newer classics can't be fixed due to the layered boards. That's not encouraging

That tells me you did it right.

Last time I played through an SVT-4 was when it was backlined at a concert through a GK 4x12 Neo. The first thing I did during my line check was turn it down, because it was BRUTALLY loud - and this was on an outside stage with a respectable line array for FOH. For the record, while I'm not obnoxious, I do like a nice thick stage volume when I play.

The SVT4 has had bridge outputs wired in both ways i.e.- some 1+/2+ as well as some 1+/1-. Every model I have seen has been obvious as to which wiring it is using as it is printed either on the back and or the top lid. The latest version uses what most of us consider the conventional wiring 1+/1- with a single bridge only output. The older version uses a 4 pole speakon output that can be used as a single stereo out or as a single bridge out with the 1+/2+ wiring.

I have a US 2001 model and I love the tone, it's awesome. I had mine in for some service, Amp B was mysteriously gone, I tried Deoxit and it didnt help. I brought it to an actual authorized Ampeg service center and he told me he would have no problem servicing any amp that ampeg still markets and for a number of years after they stop marketing. He found that the power amp in jack need to be replaced on mine as the shunk was too weak to make good contact.

In my opinion, tube amps are a completely different animal to repair than most solid state amps.
I only say this because I know a local repair man that will take on any tube amp regardless of age but he turns down almost all SS work and refers the closest shop in the state.

Enjoy your SVT4, I havent gigged mine in a long time but I'll never sell it:thumbsup:

Yeah, I read through the thread. Never messed around with bi-amping and bridging. Have you thought about the 2-pro? It's kind of like the 2np, but does have more features including the master/gain function. I thought about picking one up down the road. I think Inez runs those if I am not mistaken.
