$150 budget for a practice amp? Just forget about your cabinet and buy a cheap on combo on Craigslist.I'm thinking under $150
I have had good luck with Ashdown MiBass2.0, Class D/ gain,B<M<T<master, has source input jack and line level as well as headphone jack, it's tiny, it's powerful a [few hundred watts], so you can carry it for a backup, and mine was $150Ok, I am 41 years old but I could not resist the title...But seriously, looking for a cheap head to run into my old Carvin V410T cabinet to practice with. Emphasis on cheap, as this is just for solo practicing. What should I be searching for?
For solo practicing, I'd get a $99 combo, some of which sound pretty good! Save your pennies for a good head to mate with your cabinet IF you're ever in the position to play out. I personally think a 4x10" cab is way overkill for home solo practice.Ok, I am 41 years old but I could not resist the title...But seriously, looking for a cheap head to run into my old Carvin V410T cabinet to practice with. Here is what I'm thinking: I already have the 4x10 cab, and if I can get a GK Backline 600 I can plug it in for that and also use it as a back-up that could run my whole stack if needed. Obviously, no one needs 4x10 to solo practice with, but I already have the cab. I keep the rest of my Carvin stack at my bands practice place (Pro Bass 500 head and 1x15 cab). For solo practicing, I'd get a $99 combo, some of which sound pretty good! you could probably trade the cab for a new small combo. No money out of pocket, problem solved! Here is what I'm thinking: I already have the 4x10 cab, and if I can get a GK Backline 600 I can plug it in for that and also use it as a back-up that could run my whole stack if needed. I like that idea. My only problem with it is I have the matching head and 1x15 for it. And that would leave me with only my 15 for any upcoming gigs. Maybe that is enough, but I always used the full stack in the past?Dan, go try a small Ampeg, Fender, Peavey etc combo amp.
