Looking for first fretless bass, help?

Thanks for all the help, I am currently looking into alot of the basses y'all have recommended. When looking at alot online it seems like i have alot of options for woods and basically every aspect of the bass. Any tips on what woods and accessories get what kind of sound for fretless? I haven't tried out enough fretless to know.

Since I live in both the double bass and electric bass worlds, I'd like to make a suggestion. If you're truly going to take a run at playing fretless, then try finding an fretless instrument that has some acoustical properties, like a chambered body. I've owned a Godin Acoustibass for sometime now and I'd take a good look around trying to find a used one. They are very playable instruments and can be had with a lined fingerboard.

While the very short 20" scale may throw you off, the fretless Kala U-Bass has enough acoustic volume for practice.
