Yes, they are, even if they’re in the “brighter half” of this diagram—everything to the mellow side of them would be, as they either have round cores or not-round windings. Boomers do have high end and definition but they have zero “new string zing.” They are all about oomph. I use them on my Yamaha BB734A and BB735A.

The gauges on the Ken Smith sets look interesting. It's the other part that scares me: Super bright stainless steel round wounds and Superior brightness, sustain & tonal accuracy

A guitar tech told me round-core strings don't hold well on headless basses, though he'd never seen a setup like mine. Seeing a lot of the warmer-sounding strings seem to be round core, I sent the company who makes the bridge an email to see what they think about round-core strings.

Dark in comparison to other NPS rounds. It's how their tonal character is perceived by many. The Boomers are all about the low-mid punch with grit and grind rather than a sparkly top end.

Here's an interesting thing that happened to me awhile ago... I was using a set of Pressurewound on my 5-string at one point. Then switched to the Boomers just to try them out. During one of the band rehearsals at church, the senior audio tech asked me why my bass was sounding darker than usual. To his ears, the Boomers somehow sounded darker than the Pressurewounds, which is not what the GHS chart indicates.
