Looking for more low mid punch in a Lakland

Hey everyone!

I have a 55-01 Lakland with an NTMB preamp and the original mk-1 bartolinis in them. I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction as far as some upgraded barts or maybe some of the nordstrand options. I'm looking to move more in the direction of more lower-midrange presence.

Thanks in advance!

If you have the NTMB preamp you can try playing with mid frequency selector switches first. It may get you where you want to go. This switches control the center frequency of midrange control.
ON-ON: 250 Hz
ON-OFF: 500 Hz
OFF-ON: 700 Hz
OFF-OFF: 850 Hz

If this does not satisfy you, you can try buying a pair of Nordstrand Big Splits. They are drop in replacement for 5-string MK-1 pickups. Being split coil pickups they'll sound closer to a P pickup.

Thanks for the tip, however I messed around with the settings a lot and was unable to find anything that was satisfying in a band setting.

... seems the Nordy Splits are in the lead so far!

Big splits are cool. I replaced the pre with an Audere and really liked the results. Low z mode can buy you some low mids ... This was two different basses by the way. I did the pickups first. Sold the bass. Got the next, did the pre and was surprised at how good the Bart's sounded using a better pre. If I take the 55-01 plunge again, I'll do the pre for sure and think about the pup's...
