Looking for my first set up

It seems that this summer i will be running into a bit of money with my job. So i was looking to getting my first recording set-up. Can i have suggestion as to what i should have in it in terms of equipment and what some is the good stuff to have. I am looking to just have a nice, easy to use set-up that isnt to much. I want it to be as simple as possible but still sound good.

i'm really happy with my tascam dp01. they're only a few hundred bucks and incredibly easy to use. if you go for the next model up, it has built in FX and an XLR input, which might help it sound a little better with a good mic. the only downside is you can only record two inputs at a time, but if you're just one person recording, it shouldn't be too much of a problem.
