I have the fretted Schecter Studio-8 and it is a great instrument. Excellent tone, great sustain, very decent craftsmanship. An 8-string doesn't work in every song, and it would be a real workout on the left hand if I played it all night. Only drawback is the bridge only has four intonation adjustment screws, so you have to intonate the strings in pairs. I'm considering altering the bridge to make it possible to adjust the intonation individually on all 8 strings, but for now, I'm content to use it as is.

Looking for some 8-string suggestions.

Has anyone tried the Schecter Omen 8? I'm looking at 8's/12's, and the Omen seems to be the cheapest non-Rogue (bad rep) and Brice (mail order only) option. I'm interested in any opinions.

I have experience with both the Dean 8 and 12 Rhapsody basses. Both are excellent instruments. Haven't played the 10er yet, but it is probably nice too. I have experience with ESP basses, but not their 8 string. Really though, I think most of the mid-priced 8 and 12 string basses (Dean, ESP, Schecter) probably play and sound very nice and I'm pretty sure you couldn't go too wrong with any of them. I've actually been playing an 8er exclusively now for over 3 years after I had one built for me.
I can also vouch for these guys. Cut me a great deal on an awesome bass, shipped promptly, and packed VERY well.
Oh, yeah, and that Zon has to be incredible(!!) if you have the budget for it.

Well. I didn't know Dean made a 10-string. I think I just found the one I want. I would LOVE to get the Godlyke, but the money thing is a problem. Anyone know an online dealer? What's the price range for it? I looked on the website but it doeasn't really give much info or online dealers.

SWEET! I just bought a Dean 10 string. Got a great deal (on another site) for a used one. Guy says it's only been played for about 10 hours. I should have it sometime later this week. Merry Xmas to me! Now I hope Robat Santa doesn't kill me. (Anyone get it?)
