LOOKING FOR SOME EFFECTS ADVICE

Search Zoom B3 on TB, especially if you don't have any pedals now. Download the manual from Zoom. For not much more than the cost of a pedal tuner (which it also has) you'll get a great introduction to some useful effects. Used mine live again last night. Muting with the tuner also works great when you need to change basses.

Not bad advice. But here's an alternate approach. Measure twice, cut once. Do a little research and buy a good pedal right out of the gate. You'll clearly need something to provide some dirt, distortion, fuzz, overdrive, etc. There's probably no more widely used effect, especially in today's world of clean solid state amps.

Big Muff, Darkglass, MXR, Source Audio Multiwave...there's tons of quality units out there. Do some 'bass distortion' searches on youtube and put your headphones on. See what you like. Then come back here and see what others are saying about those units. Then pull the trigger. Chances are you'll be happier with your choice in the long run, even if it costed you two bills.

I think a Swollen Pickle would work if you set it correctly? It has a pretty good filter on it. Anyone want to second this or correct me?

I have one, but muddiness is kind of subjective.

i use one and love it. Not sure it'd be a good "introduction" to fuzz or a person new to effects, in that it can be frustratingly tedious to find the settings you like... IME of course. Obviously once i did, :bassist::bassist::bassist: it has stayed on my board for the better part of a year.

Look into Rat pedals, Big muff/clones fuzzes, and if you have $$$$ the Darkglass stuff looks great. Wren and Cuff gear is awesome. There are so many options. Research - youtube is packed with good reviews (bassfuzz.com vids are good)
