Looking For Something Throaty

OK, here's my deal.

Sometime this year, I'm looking to get a 6-string bass beast built with wide spacing, standard tuning (B-E-A-D-G-C), 34" scale, most likely the woods are mahogany and maple, neck-though.

What I'm looking for is to use ONE good passive pickup mounted in a sweet spot with ONLY a volume control onboard straight to an output jack, NO active electronics for me.

Tone wise, what I'm looking for is something throaty yet well balanced with tight punchy low-end, crisp top and a nice mid peak somewhere. Musically, I could be running from solo bass to improv to praise/worship situations.

Can anyone recommend some pickups to look at?

The first thing that comes to mind is Delano. You might also consider an SGD pickup. I think David only makes a couple of his pickups in 6-string versions, but he'd probably extend one of his current pickups (like his MM-sized pickup) to fit your string spacing.

Are you planning to make the volume control a push/pull for some coil tapping or series/parallel switching?

Right now I only have the EMG-45 size, but I'm about to order the Bart P4 size, so I'll have them in stock again.

I also put the six string coils (3.75" - 96mm) in my M5 shells.
