Looking for something to help tone

So I just got back into bass, after a year of playing guitar. I have a Ampeg BA112, with a Fender Standard P bass. I was looking for something to really warm my tone. I was like the Tech 21 VT, anything better I might look into.

And Hi noob here:D

My first amp was a BA115 and I would describe it as already being pretty 'warm'... but not the loudest and had a hard time keeping up with other instruments and still sounding good. I'd recommend saving just a little longer, and taking the VT bass money + money from selling your amp, and upgrading to something with more output and a better inherent tone/eq. Then if you still want more warmth, you can get the pedals and your amp will be able to reproduce that nice warm tone at levels that can be heard well in a band mix.

But if you're just going to be practicing by yourself at home and want to liven your tone up, the VT, BDDI, or Paradriver will probably give you the warmth you're looking for, as well as overdrive if you desire.

Money is tight right now for me and I literally just bought this amp today. It should be shipping in this week. But I have had a Ampeg SVT200T before and really it was missing something.

the vt may be your best option at this point. even if you returned the amp you just bought and got your money back, it would take a lot more than the cost of the pedal to significantly improve your amp. i say keep the amp, get the pedal, and enjoy. you can always upgrade your amp power when your playing situations call for it, and you'll always have a good practice amp which may come in handy for rehearsals and smaller gigs.

either way, i wouldn't turn around and sell an amp you just bought. either return it straightaway if you don't like it or get as much use out of it as possible. i still have a BA115 that i bought years back that comes in real handy when i don't need a huge bass rig.

That is what I figure that this would be good for small gigs and room jams. Like right now I am in a band that is starting up so this amp would be great for now. And when I get my Markbass just use that for practice and stuff.

perfect. especially if you're going to be playing with the same guys all the time, you can leave the smaller rig at the practice joint instead of toting around the big stuff. i think you're pretty well set for a new player in a band just starting. the vt is a good investment either way in that it will add flavor to any other amp you get. welcome back to the bass club. :cool:

Why thank you kind sir, and yeah it feels good to play bass again. :bassist:

And yeah Jeff has some godly tone. It really goes well with any band he is in. Jeff is one of my favorite bass players. Nice to see someone actually understands my name haha.

I like the BA112 better than any other BA series amp. To my ears, it has a much richer, warmer tone than a BA115, 115HPT, or 210SP. Almost as good as the Rocket bass amps, (B100R, B200R) But, though the options listed here so far are fine, there's another pedal I'd recomend, the Barber Linden EQ. It won't do overdrive or distortion, but it will lay some sweet fat tone on ya, and really give your sound a boost. Consider one of those, as well, or instead.

That is a pretty far price. I gotta look into that, though I can't find a video of one. I will keep looking;
