Looking for strings that sound a few months old

Hi! I have a G&L L2000. I like the strings that are on it, but I just dropped it and broke off one of the tuning pegs, so I'm bringing it in for repair and to get a setup. It has been a few years and I want to make sure dropping it didn't knock anything else out of kilter.

I don't change my strings often. I really dislike that new buzzy string sound, not sure how to describe it. I really prefer the sound after a few months (or longer).

I have two other basses -- a non-Fender P from Bass Centre (with flats) and a non-Fender J from Peavey (just put on Black Beauties, to give coated strings a try).

I definitely want rounds on this one, nickels (since steel strings are even brighter). Does anyone make strings that already sound worked in a bit?

I play mostly rock and blues, some current pop stuff. I don't really slap much.

GHS Boomers definitely sound 1/2 dead from hello. Certainly within a few hours. They’ll retain that even tone for long time though.

GHS Balanced Nickel are pure nickel as opposed to nickel-plated steel, so they're warmer without the top end zing even when new. Also, GHS Round Core Boomers, which are warmer than most so-called "nickel rounds".

Absolutely! What's nice about pure nickel strings is they have a very short break-in period and once they quickly settle, they retain their broken-in tone for a long time. I once tried the Balanced Nickels 40-101 on my P bass and loved their natural warmth. Clear and focused but without the zingy brightness.
