Double Bass Looking for teacher in DC/Baltimore area

Hi Everyone...I just joined the forum because I just purchased my first DB after lusting for one for years, a nice '46 Kay.

I have been playing electric bass for 25 years or so, but know next to nothing about the DB. I would like to find a teacher to help me get the proper fundamentals down and hopefully avoid any bad habits.

My interests are aimed towards '30s era swing and jazz, maybe some Latin, but I would also like to learn some classical with the thought of joining a community orchestra at some point. So arco will be important.

Umm...I am going to have to respectfully disagree, but thanks for the response.

i would suggest one of the many colleges,universities in the dc/balto.area. contact the music dept. and find an orchestral student who would be willing to give you instructions. since you are not learning licks and have a good background,
a proficient student can get you on your way with the fundamentals/techniques etc. it will most likely be less exspensive and you in part can contribute to their further education with your knowlege and $tipend.

Aaron Clay is a bass player in the US Marine band. A really excellent player, great jazzer, great classical technique, excellent teacher, sweet natured guy. When I took lessons from him he was just converting to fifths tuning. He uses a German bow.

I have not spoken with him in a while, but he was living in Fairfax VA just off 66.
