Looking for the best inexpensive bass cabinet

Hello all,

This is my first post and I'm seeking advice for my current mobility situation:

I play my recently acquired American JazzBass Elite V (had to take the upgrade from the Sire V7) on a TC Electronic BH-250 micro head amp paired with a GK CX210 400W 2x10 cabinet. As of now, I plan to leave the cab at church and just bring back and forth the bass guitar and the micro amp on Sundays.

For this, I'd like to buy a very inexpensive cab for about less than $150 to practice and jam at home, because I think this would be a much better move than buying one of those 40W fender Rumble v3 that cost $200.

What would be the most cost-efficient solution? Am I on the right track? Which kind/brand/model of cabs would you suggest?

Welcome to Talkbass! Good question.

When you say "jam" at home, do mean with others (especially drums)?

How much space do you have available?

Prolly should look for a boat-anchor used 4x10. Lots around for $200 or less. Like Peavey, Hartke and such.

There was a thread on this same topic just a couple of days ago. Mmmmm...

- Jam by myself with whatever song is on my laptop or others as well in the future.
- I have a lot of space available. I have my instruments in my living room right now and the ceiling is high, but I don't think I'll need a lot of sound for what I do.

So maybe a boat-anchor 2x10 or 2x12? or are you thinking a 1x12 or 1x10?

Why not save a little money and buy a good set of headphones? There's also an aux input on the amp for a device for tunes.

If you've decided to use a cab, another CX210 would be best if you ever need it for a gig, but it'll be a trick getting one used for $150. My second choice might be [Invalid or Expired Link Removed].

Sorry, I'm an amateur musician. What is a boat anchor? I don't know that I have a preference between 2x10/12 vs 1x10/12... because if it is for home practice, I'd just like to be able to hear the bass clearly, and as best as possible for as little money as possible too.

Thanks for clarifying! I think weight is not much of a determining factor because I won't be moving the extra cabinet around often. I'm more concerned about sound quality and price.

Any suggestions for model/brand/series will be greatly appreciated!

Any Used Ampeg SVT15E you can find.

likewise any used 1x12 or 1x15 you can find. they often sell for 99 to 150 to 200

GK, Hartke , or Ampeg probably most common used bass cabinets available

2 examples would be a GK 1x15 I found or a Ampeg 1x12 portaflex
Guitar Center ships to any local guitar center near you

I cant think of anything new in your price range, sure it exists but would most likely be rather cheap. other than a Acoustic BN112
youll get alot of rubbish on talkbass about them.....but Ironically the Neo 1x12 from Acoustic got very good reviews and was said the driver actually sounds rather good. The Rumble series from fender does rather well but the combo speakers are royal turds. then again plenty of people are happy with them. So just expect the Acoustic neo to outperform the fender combo speakers and be rather fine really.

A Peavey 210TX or 410TX can easily be found for well under $150 (I see them pop up locally for under $100) and sound really good. Also, older SWR Goliath cabs fit the bill, too, but are usually a touch more $$ vs the Peaveys.

Maybe look for a TL808 (15") or TL806 (12") cab. These were DIY cabs, were extremely popular over the years, and sound great with most any driver installed. I picked up a homemade TL806 cab with an EVM12L for $90. Put the EV in my Mesa guitar combo, found a $50 NOS Delta Pro 12A locally, installed it in the cab, tuned the port a touch and now really enjoy my killer, tiny bass cab.

A boat anchor is a cabinet on which you place a lead sled. :roflmao:

Where on the planet are you located? North American? Africa? Eurasia? If you fill out your profile a little more, especially location, TB can offer better suggestions.
