Looking for value/cheap 4 string good for slap bass

I am looking for ideas for a decent value bass that would work decent for slap bass. I am only beginning to learn slap and I have a 5 string right now, but would rather learn slap on a 4 string.

I see that Fender Squire they call the retro funk inspired bass or some jargon. Would this be a decent bass for such a purpose. I will be buying used, but am looking to probably only spend 200 or less used. I don't need a sweet bass, but something that at least plays clean notes.

Any thoughts on what I should look for in a bass....pickups, wood....or any brand suggestions.

Thanks.

I actually know someone who got a cheap-o dean 4 string (I think it was $100 on sale).

I play it every time I go over there and it's action is very surprisingly nice. Doesn't play or sound like a cheap-o, and it slaps/plucks with the fury.

I have to say I wouldn't mind having one as a "don't really care what happens to this thing cause it was $100" cause it sure doesn't play like it.

You might be able to get a used Traben for $200 if lucky. The basic traben array sells new for $279. So nice used one should be gettable for $200 or little under. Does have basswood body. That can work great for some. But doesnt really do it for me. Which is why I didnt concider one before I got my array attack with its royal paulownia body. They go for $399 new, so itd be really lucky to find nice one in your budget.

Used import Ibanez would be another good choice imo.
