Looking to build a small DIY passive subwoofer

Eminence 3012lf in a fearful 12 sub enclosure. Kicks pretty hard, quite small amd very light. I did several sound gigs with a pair of them under 1x10 and horn tops crossed at 120. I would highly recommend an active crossover and stereo power amp... You'll b surprised at how much difference that makes.

The f12 sub is a very easy build as well...

All 3 of these look like excellent options! I like the Fearful idea with a passive crossover passing mids and highs to the 10's. I don't want to add a power amp as that will defeat my mission of keeping my small pa "small." I want to be very mobile as sometimes I do two shows in one day.

Both the Bugera and Behringer powered subs look excellent!

Would they pass a non-powered signal to the 10" speakers?

The turbosound and behringer subs both include an active crossover that will pass the highs to the tops. For $100 more the turbosound includes a couple of 200w amps to run passive tops if you don't have powered cabs. Which could keep the need to carry a power amp for the tops. I don't know if turbosound will ever ship, but if it does ... I'll be in line.

OK, since we're talking about low-ball, DIY solutions vs. existing gear, if all you want is something to augment a fairly low volume system, I think you'd have to look pretty far and wide before you built or found something that could compete with something like this as a new product 20" x 18" x 17":

I'm not going to make any value judgements about this being the greatest thing since sliced bread, but I actually did purchase one of these as part of a bass amp experiment, re-loading it with a coaxial 15" driver, and the cabinet itself actually wasn't too bad. I wound up re-loading the original speaker and selling it for just about what I paid. For the price, and if tempering your expectations, consider this.

I Can't get enthused about the passive x-over idea. IMO active is the only way to go in PA... The sound quality is sooo much better. Even if it's one built into a crown xls or similar... Figure out a convenient way to attach your mixer to it... I used to carry a nice EQ and Comp/limiter in a 2 space rack bag, in the bag pocket was an Alesis multimix 8 channel mixer. Power supply and i/o cables lived in the rack bag . 2 minute open mic setup... Powered speaks in my case...

Thanks for the suggestion! I found an even smaller version with a 12" subwoofer. I'm tempted to pull the trigger, so cheap.

I have to admit, I'm very intrigued by the Turbosound Inspire iP12P powered subwoofer with two built in stereo amps for my two 10" speakers. At that point all I'd need would be a small non powered mixer.
