looking to replace p-pickup

im looking to replace the pickup in my p-bass for one with an extended frequency response. i tune my p-bass BEAD. so far the pickups im looking at are:

Nordstrand NP4

Dimarzio Split P

Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder

what im going for is a big sounding passive bass that is responsive with an articulate and solid low end.

im open for suggestions and definitely would like some input! thanks guys

Aguilar just released a P bass pickup, no experience yet with it, but there Jazz Bass pickups have to be the best sounding Jazz Pickups I have ever heard. They are stock in Spector Coda's. Great rich round tone. I would see if you can get your hands on one, also I think price wise they fall between the SD and Dim and the Nordstrand.

Have you checked out Curtis Novak? I have two of his P-Bass pickups (an early tele-style single coil and a vintage split humbucker) and they sound GREAT. For what your wanting to do he makes this:

It might be the ticket to the tone you're after. Curtis is a super cool guy and he will do anything custom you you think of. Give him a call and discuss the tone you're after.

those novak pickups seem pretty awesome, but i would love to find some soundclips. my only concern with the novak pickups is the price. is the extra 30-40 dollars worth it?

im definitely not going for a super traditional "vintage p-bass" sound. im rather wanting to create a more unique sound

Well, I would call him and discuss it. When he made my first Tele P pickup he told me to "try it out and send it back if you're not happy with it." I'm sure he would do the same for you. Also, if you talk to him and try to describe the tone you're after he might be able to design/wind you something completely custom that better suits you. His prices are very fair for had wound pickups. That's my $0.02 anyway...
