Looping lead cord between strap and bass

Like many bassists, I think, I run my lead cord between my strap and bass to help keep it out of the way. However, in doing so, the cord tends to rub against the bass sometimes wearing the finish. With most of my straps, I don't have to option to run the cord between the inner and outer portion of the strap (like you could do with most guitar straps).

Any ideas about gadgets that could help prevent the cord from rubbing against the bass? Maybe some kind of hook that keeps the cord on the outside of the strap?

That looks like just what the doctor ordered! Of course, GC doesn't ship to Canada, but what's even funnier is that GC sells it at $5.55 and Amazon sells it at $22.57! Will check and see if it more reasonably priced elsewhere, but that's the ticket. Thanks spufman!

I've been starting to use these:

They are not perfect but they work. My main concern is not to tear off any jacks or plugs and not to fall down, more than to protect the finish. I'm not sure they will help so much with that. Possibly there will still be some friction - just not so much and it will be spread over a larger area and probably more towards the back of the bass

Why not use a velcro straps? Loop the velcro straps around your bass strap, and then run the cord between the outside of the bass strap and the velcro strap. Not as elegant as the grip clip, but it'll work as well.
I just tried it myself, and it works.

Personally I just run the cord between the bass body and the strap, I don't really care about the cord marring the finish... but you do, so try the velcro before you buy the clip.

Most straps have the doubled up adjustable section on that side of the instrument, why not just run the cable between the layers of the strap?

Not on most leather straps (ladder back style)

Can something be done with a rubber band? I’m thinking you could prusik the band onto the strap with a loop on the outside, then just run the cord through the loop.

That is, of course, entirely true. I don't often see those myself for some reason except on acoustic guitars.

I’ve personally never noticed any wear from running my cord under my leather straps, but this is probably dependent on lots of factors (the bass, strap, particular cord material, how high you wear the bass, how much you move the bass around while playing, etc).

I like the Velcro strips idea for an easily removable solution, or zip-ties for a more permanent loop on the outside of the strap

When I switched to strap locks, I noticed that gave the cord more space between body and strap and it tends to be in the middle of button now. I use Dunlop Original Design.

loop the strap through such that it's not wedged all the way down tight between the strap and the body, then don't think about it ever again.

+1 to never noticing any cable wear on the finish in the first place.

I've had scuffs on basses from the cables occasionally (more so in the old days), but they usually clean up unless you leave them on there too long.

Have a D-ring riveted to the strap.

I loop the cord.
Not to "keep it out of the way",but to keep it from becoming unplugged if I step on the cord.
I don't have to contend with the cord rubbing the finish off because I have natural finished basses.
