Looping lead cord between strap and bass

I loop the cord.
But not to "keep it out of the way"
But to keep it from becoming unplugged if I step on the cord.
I don't have to contend with the cord rubbing the finish off because I have natural finished basses.

Like many bassists, I think, I run my lead cord between my strap and bass to help keep it out of the way. However, in doing so, the cord tends to rub against the bass sometimes wearing the finish. With most of my straps, I don't have to option to run the cord between the inner and outer portion of the strap (like you could do with most guitar straps).

Any ideas about gadgets that could help prevent the cord from rubbing against the bass? Maybe some kind of hook that keeps the cord on the outside of the strap?

I've been using them for a few years now and I see no finish wear where the snake head meets the bass.

For acoustic shows - absolutely.

But for Rock & Roll, you need an electric toothbrush.

Just saw a pic of a straplock that includes a cord holding groove arrangement. But it's a solution to a problem I've never observed, in all honesty.

One of the spring type, you can even use a dab of silicone glue to hold the cloths pin in place.

When I switched to strap locks, I noticed that gave the cord more space between body and strap and it tends to be in the middle of button now. I use Dunlop Original Design.

This ^^. I'm not sure if mine are "original" as they have the enlarged end to hold a non-equipped strap. I think they're called "dual-design", but they feature the same added clearance to the bass body - just right, about 1/4".

Lol! You know, I honestly wasn't sure, but then, kind of thought, huh, that might actually work...
Actually, I ended up ordering the Neotech Stomp Stopper (should have it this week). Prior to that, was running the cord through one of the strap holes, but it was so tight, that if I did that too long, it would have damaged the cord and/or the strap.

That's perfect! Does exactly what it's supposed to and actually looks like a product you'd buy for specifically that purpose. Nice!

well: it's several inexpensive pieces from the hardware, but they work great! just go to the 'key-making section' --- all the parts are there (except for one zip tie: mine is the zip tie with the screw hole).

how do you guys change basses or swap cables without taking forever?

also, how do you wrap the cable up at the end of the night with that permanent stuff attached to one end?

i dunno, it just seems awkward to me.

I don't switch cords.
Both my basses have it's own cord.

When packing up,I unplug it from the bass.
I coil up the cord.
It stays looped on the strap (always stays on)and goes into the gig bag with the bass.
If I need to take it off,I unlatch the straplock and slip the loop off the strap.
