"looser" feeling tapes

Inspired by the "flats that sound like rounds" thread, here's my question.

I've tried D'Addario black nylons and found them to feel pretty high tension. Are there other nylon-wound strings that feel lower-tension? For comparison, I like the feel of TI Jazz flats, DR Sunbeams, and broken in light gauge EB Cobalt flats.

I need a smooth-feeling string.

Well, to begin with, the D'Add nylons are pretty flexible IME, relative to other strings in general, so you're definitely a low-tension, high flexibility type. The D'Adds are 50-105 gauge, which includes the nylon wrap, so the wire is more in the 40-90 range. But yes, I think they are less flexible than some other 50-105 tapes. In particular, I think you'll probably find the LaBella 50-105 tapes (especially the various white tapes) to be satisfactory. They're more flexible than the TIJFs, IMO.

To me, the D'addario 50-105 tapes are very low tension. At least, compared to the 45-105 roundwound sets I use on my other basses.

You should try labella copper white nylon.
The stiffness are pretty comfort just like Ti flat , labella LTF4a and Dunlop SBN40-100.

Great tone but the only downside are low output......

Fender tapes is what I use for the same reason.

The La Bella White and White Copper are pretty low tension. Comparable to similar gauge Sunbeams, I'd say... That's what I'd suggest. I've tried a ton of other tapes and those are probably the most supple. Get the standard whites if you want lots of clarity with standard output.

If you want a black tape that isn't as tight as the D'Addario, I'd try the Pyramids. They're my favorite tapes, but they're quite a bit darker and woodier than the La Bell Whites. Tension of the Pyramids is moderate-to-low, closer to a standard .105 set of rounds.

They are one of the lowest tension commercially available sets of conventional tape wound strings out there. The tension is @ 30 lbs per string. This is lower even than most 35-90 roundwound sets, lower than La Bella LTF's, and bordering on being so low that stability is lost.

Agree 100% They are very low tension in my experience. I can't imagine a looser string that would still be functional.
