Lortab after surgery

I just got my wisdom teeth taken out Tuesday, and I'm trying to not take that many lortabs, because I don't know the harmful side affects. Anyone mind filling me in?

I'm waking up in terrible pain, and take a half every morning, followed by a half when I go to sleep, is that too much? They are only 7.5s and I'm about 210 lbs.

thanks!

You can take a full tab for sure. Your a big dude. My GF had tabs for a surgery and they were 10mgs. If she took one she was fine but still in some pain. If she took 2 she would get nausea. 1 and a half worked just right. She a small girl.

People's tolerance to that stuff can very....I get those whenever I get kidney stones (which is more often than I'd prefer) and I can easily take 20 MGs to 30 MGs no problem when the pain requires it - and I'm 5'8 and 150 lbs. Your body builds a tolerance to the stuff very easy - I used to get sick off of 10mg.

Nausea is the biggest side affect. Oh, and addiction, if you like the feeling off of it too much.

If I was still hurting that much 4 days later, I'd be on the phone to the Dr. and thinking about post-op infection.

The amount of Lortab you are administering yourself is well, well, below what is considered the therapeutic dose (if you trust google) it's no surprise it's not doing you any good.

I got addicted after my knee surgery, thankfully my mom cut me off and told me no. I had headaches for days.

I have a checkup on Tuesday, and I don't think its infected as I've been rinsing it out, but I'll try giving them a call today. I doubt they will answer though.
Strange thing is that my twin brother has the same procedure done at the same time, and his doesn't hurt that much. Maybe we just have different pain tolerance. For me, I can take any amount of pain in my knee in stride, while can't.

Any advice to make the swelling go down besides ice?

ice/ibuprofin or nabumetone reduce swelling, as does pineapple to a lesser degree. lortab is only hydrocodone (vicodin, norco, etc). you shouldnt have a rough detox. its all in your head. if you hurt then take one. thats why you have them. ive been on the 10mg ones for years and im fine (and i take 2-3 at a time). if youre going through a bad detox a couple valium helps, but firt: ICE THE **** OUT OF IT! best medicine out there (well, besides time).

The percentage of people who become addicted to post operative pain control with narcotic meds is pretty low, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. 7.5 mg of hydrocodone every 4-6 hours is pretty standard. If your pain gets worse, as always, contact your doctor. But you should be out of the woods in 3-4 days. Oh, and as for side effects, constipation and drowsiness are the most common ones that are reported. Good luck!

Maybe you missed this part. that's wha he's looking for other alternatives

Yeah, I did miss that. You may then be one of the unlucky ones who is predisposed to addiction. As for alternatives, I think the above posts already recommended them. Ice, and ibuprofen or acetaminophen. Try your best to avoid the narcotics as you already know, it can be hell to get off of them.

Yea, it sucked coming off of them, but it was really my head that hurt and not my knee so I was happy.

As for my mouth now, the swelling is going down, and it's gone from a sharp pain to more of a sore feeling that you get a day after working out. I can totally deal with this pain because I'm really use to it, the only thing is awkward placement.

I've been icing for about an hour a day, and it helps, but not as much as I would like. The advil really helps keep the pain in check and I think it's helping with the swelling, or should I be taking tylenol? I know they are different but I can never keep which is which.

As far as predisposed addict, I might be. I know both of my brothers are addicted to pot, and I've done it before, but I don't see what is so special. Not like I'm going to sit down every afternoon and smoke. I have more important stuff to do.

Good to hear. It's easy to forget that "pain management" is the goal. Going for total pain elimination is where people get themselves into trouble. And not just from an addiction point of view - pain is one of the many ways nature triggers the recovery mechanisims inside your body. That's according to the surgeaon who operated on me recently.

That's interesting. I've never heard that before, but it makes a lot of sense.

I'm just waking up in a lot of pain, like this morning I woke up at 3 and had to take some more advil to get it to be bearable so I could sleep again. I also iced it. It's just getting a little annoying to not get a full night of sleep.
