Depending on what you're into, in addition to the venues above, there's Vitello's for more hard corp jazz; Claire Fischer used to perform there. And Herb Alpert's Vibrato Grill which is a really nice room, similar to Birdland in NYC, with a great sound system, no cover; good, but slightly over-priced food, and the acts tend to be serious jazzers mixed with some more crowd pleasing performers. John Pisano's Guitar Night is now at the Mixx in Pasadena on Tuesday's at 7:30 but arrive around 6:45 for a good table, or make a reservation if they'll let you. Pisano's a local institution and I always marvel at how versatile he is, always adapting his playing to his guest with always a first-rate rhythm section. Last, in San Pedro there's Alva's. Also a really nice, small room, no food, BYOB, but a $10 to $25 cover. All of the acts are good, not all jazz, some semi-pro.
