EXTREMELY LONG POST LOL.
I was in that stage with guitars but now since I am getting my bass rig set up, I am a shop a-holic lol. Today is my birthday and I received $300 cash from a family member so I am already wondering what else I could buy with it lmao. I just scored a Digitech BP355 bass multi effects processor off of fleaBay for $41 and last night I found a Deltalab DBFX1 bass multi effects processor that I have been looking for over two months lol. That was a hell of a birthday present be cause I couldn't find one for sale anywhere. Go figure that I would find it right after I bought the Digitech BP355. But I scored the Deltalab DBFX1 for $29.99 used from GC's website and it's in mint condition. I have the Deltalab DGFX1 multi effects processor for one of my guitar set ups and it's not the top of the line for a multi effects pedal but I already know how to use it and I really like some of the sounds that I have been able to create on it. So the bass model should be fun to play with in my house. I also dig the wah effects on it and can't wait to see how the bass model sounds.
I think I might go with a Focusrite Scarlett USB Interface set up and somehow put some speakers on the CC after we pay off the monthly CC bill lmao. Or I could bring my amp back since I have 45 days to return it at GC and upgrade to a Rumble 200w or the used Ampeg 450w combo that they have in their store. Then I would also love to get my hands on a used fretless with the fret lines on the board or buy another Yamaha TRBX304 Bass that I can refinish and do a stencil job on in my shop. Okay, I have a problem lmao! But I haven't got to the point of selling any of my guitars or guitar gear to get more bass gear so I have been bitten but not that hard yet lol. But I do have two shotguns in a shop on consignment right now so I can get a head and cab along with some other stuff. To be honest,
I am going through some rough times in my life right now with having to get another back surgery after dealing with years of pain due to a doctor screwing up my back surgery and hiding it for years and then not being able to work for so long during the biggest firearms boom in the history of the US, I keep trying to stay positive and chug along. I try to make plans to get out and do something but always have to cancel plans because of my back hurting me and keeping me stuck in bed all day. I am a gunsmith and a big outdoorsman and not being able to do either while being stuck on meds to get by every day is a horrible way to live. But I can always grab my bass and play it while on my back. In a certain way, learning to play the bass has put a smile back on my face just like when I realized that gunsmithing is my calling in life. I love playing my guitars but I kinda lost interest in playing them lately. I have gone as far as I wanted to go on guitar in my life and now realized that I am truly a bassist at heart. It's not because it's something new to me but because I have always loved the sound of a bass.
When I would go to concerts, I would always watch the bass player and the drummer because I usually already knew how to play the songs on guitar so the guitar players never really interested me. Back in 1993 I got dragged by my friends to a Spin Doctor's/Soul Asylum/Screaming Trees concert at Great Woods in MA. I have to say that seeing the Spin Doctor's live was absolutely amazing. Mark White who is the bassist for them, did a slap solo that blew my mind so much that I signed up for bass lessons right after the concert. Out of all the shows that I have seem, I have never seen a bassist do a bass solo. Not even Geezer Butler performed a bass solo when I seen Black Sabbath (RJD singing) with Rainbow (who didn't end up playing that night) back in 1992 at the Orpheum Theater in Boston. Mark White was amazing and I read that he was giving lessons down here now at Rockin' Robin's music Shop here in Houston Texas! It's not every day that you get the chance to take lessons from the person who is your reason for wanting to learn something. But sadly he stopped giving lessons there. I recently seen a guy at our local GC that I swear was him, but he was helping a friend of his pick out a bass and was actually giving him a lesson so I didn't want to interrupt the guy because I had to get back home at the time. But I am hoping to run in to him again because I really want to learn how to play funk and get slap happy on my bass. I had to stop lessons because my teacher moved and after that I moved out of state. It was stupid of me to give up the bass and focus on singing because musically it felt like I was just missing something and not feeling that happy feeling when playing with the band we had.
After years of fiddling with basses on shop walls and finally getting my head on straight, I realized that I was meant to play bass. I took piano lessons, singing lessons, drum lessons, guitar lessons when I was younger and after all that, it was the bass that seemed to fill that creative void that I was looking to fill. I don't know if I am making sense here since I suffer from insomnia from all the darn meds they have me on right now lmao. So.......yeah I love the bass lol. I also love TB because this place is not like a lot of the other forums where people are rude to each other, put each other down and make fun of others who know less than they do. I am a gunsmith and I know a lot about firearm and can't stand going on all the firearm forums because every tom dick and Harry thinks that they are better, know more than the next person and in reality, are clueless and only know about AR15's because they put a couple of them together lmao. There are also a bunch of gear snobs on those forums that make fun of others if they can't afford to spend $800 on a red dot sight. Unlike here where you tell people to pick up a bass that fits them the best. You all don't judge someone because they bought a Gzc $100 special for their first bass. Bass players seem to have a totally different vibe about them from what I have seem. They all seem to be happy being in the rear with the gear (military term lol) and mastering their tone instead of running around on stage like they were on fire lol.
I taught my wife how to put one together in 30 minutes and she put together her own rifle in under an hour because it's not rocket science. So I don't go around bragging about what I know like most of those people because once you think you know everything, you never learn anything new. But all of you here at TB are awesome and I have learned a lot from being a member here. I don't know much about basses but if you ever have a firearm question, guitar question, archery stuff, fly fishing or hunting question then send me a message and I will gladly help you out. I am rambling here, but it's my birthday, I am stuck on my back for the night and all I have is time on my hands till I can get my second back surgery over with. So I will probably be asking a lot of questions and learning as much as possible from all of you here.
My gunsmithing idol and teacher was the bassist for a famous 70's band and after seeing him play during lunch time, it really got me thinking about getting back in to bass again. He actually let me play his bass once and it was amazing. He has an old vintage Fender that is beat to hell but sounds beautiful. So I definitely have the bass bug! If I hit the lottery tomorrow, I would definitely be buying a house, having a professional recording studio built in it and then I would go on an all out bass and gear shopping spree lol. I am definitely a gear wh0r3 with all this new gear out on the market. I have bought 4 effects pedals, 1 bass wah pedal and 2 bass multi effects processors all in less than a month lol. Every time I see a review or suggestion from a TB member, I end up liking the videos of the pedal and end up buying it. My next big effects purchase is going to be a Darkglass Alpha Omega pedal. Costs an arm and a leg but I am really digging the sound of it so far. Blah blah blah..........shutting up now. Thanks again to all of you for every bit of help you have given me here. and that was to buy a new mixer for my church. I did check the bass room and it was usual Ibbys, Squiers, and Fenders with horrible action. I'll buy pretty much everything online, mostly because I refuse to pay almost 11% tax in Chicago.
