Loud hum from an Ampeg

I have a small Ampeg BA110 amp that I keep at home for practicing since I leave my full rig at our rehearsal space. A couple weeks ago I was playing the practice amp and all of a sudden the sound dropped out and there was a loud humming sound. I turned the amp off and unplugged everything, but it still hums. No matter what level the volume is set at, as soon as I turn it on it hums like crazy with no sound from my bass. Any idea what the problem might be? Thanks !

Well, I'm sure you don't want to hear this but you are going to need to get that amp to a tech. I have found that a lot of solid state amps will HUMM like that when the have power problems. Like if the negative voltage is higher than the positive voltage in the power supply.

So.... get thee to a tech

It's broken. Take it into the shop.:bawl:
Technically speaking, it's probably a power supply component failure, or an output device. But that's immaterial; if you had the requisite knowledge and experience to replace whatever is broken you'd also have the knowledge and experience, not to mention the required tools, to diagnosis it. Where potentially lethal voltages are concerned don't screw around, let a pro do it. You also stand the chance of making things worse trying to DIY something you don't know anything about.
