Hmmm... The opportunity to work 1 year for an organization that has been flat out abusive to it's employees, is on the unfair list and will ruin any chance you have of a career in music? I'm sure the music will be no problem for any genius who would take that audition :/
The lesson here is that if you ever see a major professional orchestra job on google or craigs list, it's probably a bad idea.

To sum up everyones comments- don't take the audition unless you want to never work in a different professional orchestra again. I believe the term is "career suicide"?

There were 71 musicians, but They are bumping that number down to 50-something (not the original musicians, of course). But still, do you think anyone will fall for it?

The Louisville Orchestra Musicians Association (LOMA) has established an on-line petition that will allow you to demonstrate your support for the musicians of this great and historic orchestra. It is very important that musicians everywhere sign this petition in a display of solidarity and to demonstrate to the leaders of the city of Louisville that the musicians of the LOMA have your support.

I ab-so-lutely guarantee that the "winners" list will be spread across the entire AFM. No unionized orchestra will ever hire any of the suckers EVER. The community orchestra in Juno Alaska will turn these kids away.

Ah. That's what I wanted to know. It seems to me that the board will not win this battle simply because there aren't any other musicians who will take the job. Where would they go from here? (sorry for all of the dumb questions. Im a noob and never experienced this situation. I just want to be aware of what is to come)
Sorry I was not clear. Several musicians from this orchestra have moved on, no longer living in or near Louisville. And with such a bad taste left in their mouths, would more than likely not take up work with this group again. There are also many left that who were in the orchestra before it joined ICSOM. Nevertheless, many families have been drastically effected and in a time when classical music needs positive press, this hurts all of us.
I was fortunate enough to take an Arts Administration course in school where we studied the fall of the Oakland Symphony during the 1980's. It was a good lesson and with this situation now, there are lessons we can all take and apply to our own careers.
