Loving my Pedulla Buzz fretless so much

I have played my Ibanez Portamento 5 string fretless full-time in both of my bands ever since I joined them a little over a year ago. Then I picked up a bass I've always wanted, a Pedulla Buzz (NBD: "Duckling" (as in ugly ... Pedulla Buzz content)). I love it so much that I'm going to switch and try to play it in both bands. I have my first gig with it tonight, and have worked out the few changes to my bass lines. It has a Hipshot extender for the low D, and with this band I don't really miss the notes lower than that.

For the other band, I'm going to try an Electro Harmonix Pitchfork shifter pedal. My thought is that if I set it up to shift pitch down a fourth, when I step on it my bass becomes a BEAD-tuned bass with a drop-A available with the Extender. If the Pitchfork doesn't work out, I'll need to keep using a five in that band, as I need the low B and A quite often.

I'm very excited, as I prefer playing four string basses when I can. Not just for comfort, though it's a plus for me. But I like the way I think and construct lines on a four string better. I'm somehow just more creative. I've tried for a while now to work on making the five feel the same, but haven't succeeded so far. I've been playing fivers for about 20 years now, so I kind of doubt I'm going to have some sudden epiphany on them now, but who knows?

Anyway, for now I'm just excited to have a bass I've wanted my whole career, and to have the chance to use it live.

I've not had my Pentabuzz out of it's case for a couple of months now, I need to change that...

Yes you do. That bass is too bluetiful to be sitting in its case not being played .drool

Congrats !! I’m know what it’s like to finally get the bass of your dreams and have it work for you . Same thing happened to me this week with my new Stingray Special 5.

I’m sure you’ll be able to make it work for you in any situation .
I like the way you made that bass uniquely yours . Taking that stripped finish and adding the decals was a great idea . It might not have a fancy finish or flamed top but I’m sure it fits you like a glove . Pedulla are not common everyday basses. Yours is even more unique.

I'm even more impressed by this bass after playing it in a live setting. The growl is just astonishing. It's honestly the perfect sound for this band.

Thanks! I'm getting used to the look, and might just keep it as-is. I am still thinking of a simple purple or red stain though, or maybe a vinyl skin. I could also get Pedulla to refinish it, and they would add a logo back onto it as well as refinish the fingerboard. Not cheap, but it would be like new then, and total cost waaaaay less than a new one. Of course, it wouldn't have the gorgeous flame maple of the new ones, but ...

Who knows? Time will tell. For now, I'm just loving playing it, and it really does fit me like a glove, as @lowdownthump said.
