Pm'dWhat does a cab of this nature cost??? If you are allowed to say, that is.
It is 5.3 ohms.
It's tight and full. Projects really well. Deeper and fuller sounding than the Schroeder 6x10 I had. The lds is ported much better. You can hear and feel every note. How would you describe the sound? Can you compare it to any other cab?
Tube amps dont like to run a load higher than what their OT's are rated for. Why?
When you run a tube head into a higher impedance you end up generating flyback voltage on the primary side of the OT. Depending upon the severity of the mismatch the flyback can cause arcing and potential output tube and or OT death from very large voltages. Usually a 2:1 mismatch is okay but 4 to 8 is the worse mismatch as compared to 8 to 4 for example. If 4 to 8 was the better mismatch then an infinite load on the secondary would be okay but anyone who has a tube amp knows that results in instant OT death if you try to put any kind of output power into the infinite load. Conversely this is why Fender put shorting output jacks on all of their amps back in the day in case someone tried to play without a speaker load. Its better to short the output of a tube amp as compared to leaving it open.
That is how I would run it.So if I have a cab that is 5.3 ohms and my amp is switchable to 4 or 8 ohms, I should put the amp on 8? I have been told in my case it doesn't matter.
