Well, boys, I went over to Brian's shop the other day and ended up coming home with this:
First off, let me say that Brian was at the shop for me, by appointment, on a Saturday when they're normally closed. Secondly, it was supposed to be a quick trip but it turned into about 3 hours worth of my noodling on just about everything he had in his shop. He was uber cool, hung out, talked basses with me, and I never felt rushed or got the impression that he didn't want to be there (even though his wife had hurt her ankle earlier that day - wow, what a schmuck I sound like, eh?).
Anyway, after playing a bunch of basses (LEJ's and many others) this one really spoke to me. Brian commented that this one has a "wonderful response" on the website and it absolutely does. And the color (which a friend at church dubbed "Prince Purple") looks just awesome in person. And the deeply figured maple board is. . . insane!
Anyway, I wanted to relay the story that everything people say about dealing with Brian is absolutely true - I'm looking forward to the next time I can head over that way and hang at the shop. As far as the bass goes, it's got tons of character, deep lows, clear sparkling highs, and the playability is fantastic. It's still on trial, so to speak, but either way it's a phenomenal bass.
Thanks, Brian!
