Sounds like the person running sound is climbing the steep part of the learning curve!

In a classic front line vocal mics four feet to the side and a little behind the mains is very workable.
As noted it sounds like the sound crew is climbing a steep learning curve, kind of rough at a show. Lets hope that how to do it right
is learned on the climb........many times that's not the case though.

With the bass running through 18" subs, and EQ'ed for a 'fluffy' bass tone, 3 1/2 feet was not cutting it, even outdoors. I haven't been able to hear how the sound tech is treating the bass in FOH, but one of my bandmates understands how I like it, and he is working with our sound guy to give it more definition and less ultra low on the EQ. Some guys like to rattle the wall, I would rather punch a hole in it.
