Low mid growly strings, less harsh high end

Regarding the suggestions for the DR Lo-Riders. I am a slapper, and I found them difficult to slap due to their stiffness... ...I think the Sunbeams are just what the doctor ordered here. Plenty of low-mid growl, with just enough top end for slap.

The Sunbeams, with their full, warm bottom and snappy (but not harsh) top end combined with their round-core suppleness, would be better-suited for slapping for sure.

But for the low-mid punch and growl, I'd take the Pressurewounds over the Sunbeams any day.

DR Nickel Lo-Riders for sure. Especially for that mid growl. What brightness on the top they have mellows out in a day or so. Possibly DR Pure Blues too, although they always sounded a little mid-scooped and more sweet and punchy than growly to me. Which is why I like (and use) them. But I don't think they're what you're looking for.

I'd certainly say Lo Riders on a Stingray sound fantastic. Lo Riders (especially the nickels) are my favorite string and, even though I'll occasionally try other strings on it and my other basses, I always go back to the nickel Lo Riders. They have a stiffer feel that I like, a full warm low end with great low mids, and I've always gotten great string life out of them. The one thing I can't really address is how they sound slapped/popped. I'll occasionally work on it just to try it but I don't do it often enough to be good enough to let anyone hear me do it.

For the sound you want and the ind of music you play, I think they're be a great fit for you. FWIW, I play my Stingray through GK heads as well (mostly an MB500, but occasionally through my 1001-RBII). Great combination!

I have some nickel LoRider on my P bass and they sound great for slapping and popping, at least to my ears.
