Lowballers

How do you respond to lowballers? Just ignore them? I had somebody offer $150 on a bass listed for $700. Do these people expect a serious reply?
I just ignore them…they’re trolls, essentially, and it’s just not worth it to push back. You won’t accomplish anything. But keep a list of them, if there’s any identifiers, if you sell often. You’ll probably hear from them again.

I remember when I sold my Carvin LB75, I had a Trollballer: would PM me almost daily with an offer half of what I was asking along with an explanation why I was never going to sell it at my asking price because Carvin doesnt hold its value used retail ---- FYI, I know that used Carvins are hard sells and I had already priced it accordingly but this guys offer was rediculous.

Yes, low ballers are annoying, but so are sellers that overprice their items, sometimes for more than what you can buy it new at GC. I usually don’t respond, but a couple years ago I pointed this out to a seller, and they responded with “make me an offer” and I ended up buying my G2220 at a fair price. Usually, though, it’s “I know what I’ve got.” Yes, but you don’t know what it’s worth.

All my friends know the low baller
The low ball-er is a little liar

The low ball-er dives a little lower
Low ball-er is a real joker

Low ball-er knows every cheat, yeah
Low ball-er, is the one to unmeet, yeah

Low ball-er don’t use no class now
The low ball-er you can outlast now

Take a little tip, try to get a grip
Tell him to take a trip and flee

Take a little tip, try to get a grip
Tell him to never contact me

Not saying you did but sometimes you have the opposite too. People asking way too much. If I am really interested, I may send a message explaining how I arrive at my offer.

For example, if a bass has an "upgraded" pickup, but it's not an upgrade for me or that upgrade is totally overvalued. I recently had somebody trying to tell me a Lindy Fralin pickup in 50's Squier Precision was worth $300-$400. Dude, you can get that bass new for $400, and you are asking $650. No wonder it has been sitting for month.
