Luminlays…my new favorite thing!

For anyone who hasn't seen Luminlays yet, well worth it - I just installed a set for the first time and I'm really pleased with the results. A nice alternative to the trouble of installing LEDs or fiber optic.

Here they are after a two second charge from a UV flashlight I bought today at Home Depot…

And here they are after 20 minutes in the dark. Still glowing.

The manufacturer says the Green inlays are brighter initially, but the Blue inlays maintain brightness longer. (I went with the blues)

Definitely a cool option to consider. Worth checking out.

I ordered direct off the site, as far as I know they don't have any domestic distributors. Took about four weeks to arrive. I went with the 2.5MM size, seems to be a good balance size-wise.

I just got mine yesterday as well - took two weeks and a couple of days. I bought the little LED flashlight that they sell, and because I ended up placing two orders - they gave me a free flash light, to compensate me for the extra shipping. So I have two which works perfectly well for me. Those little lights are tiny key ringers with four special batteries but man oh man are they bright! They charge those inlays up quick, as Lonnybass says - I am sure his Home Depot unit does too. I also was surprised at how long they glowed bright.

These look a lot easier than mixing luminous powder with clear epoxy and then casting them in the drill holes.

Would you mind doing a charge-up photo series similar to the ones that I took, using the charger that you bought from Luminlay? Curious to see if it's any different from a Hardware store UV light...

My builds are in the Bass section as I am the designer - so since I am not technically the builder - I have to post them there. I am doing all sorts of stuff, but there are some copycat builds in medium scale here - and the material was purchased for the twin Fender hollows and the Gibson Les Paul in medium:

The spalted one? I actually found that one on Ebay...I'm always scouring for really wild tops and probably looked at hundreds before finding that one. The flamed maple billets I found for the neck on the instrument I'm making now were buried at the back of the woodpile at the lumberyard, underneath a bunch of plain unfigured boards. Wait till you see the quilted maple slabs I haven't milled yet.

I LOVE Luminlay products.

I've been using their stuff for a wile and neither I or my customers have been disappointed. I see no reason to use anything else for side dots. As far as I Know they're are no US dealers, but their good about getting orders shipped quickly. Some of their stuff is on Ebay too. Recently I got the opportunity to use their fretless line markers... and it's awesome! I'll be reordering soon (a little bit goes a long way, but I cant seem to keep the stuff in my shop long) and I'm excited to tryout their (relatively) new knobs with glowing numbers, guitar guys seem to really dig having the numbers. Besides, they're just cool! In short I'm a fan.
