Alright guys, you guys are always so good at convincing me to spend money, so it's up to you. Convince me to spend $100 on a year subscription to .Mac

I would like it for my iWeb site project. Is that part of the 1GB iDisk (the site space)? I've been doing blogs and such in iWeb and would like to publish it. I don't want to spend the $100 just to do that, so convince me that .mac is worth it.

There's a free trial version. You could try it and see how you liked it. If you have a lot of computer experience I doubt you'd find it very useful.

It's nice to have a secure place to back up data.

Ithink it's more for beginners and also a little sharing community with other .mac members. It features tutorials, but all in all I don't think it's worth $100 a year.

.cac has some nice features, but I don't think even Jobs could convince anyone to sign up. You get the nice integration, but the actual features are poor.

can't iWeb export its website to disk, and then just manually upload it to some cheaper/free service?

.mac is one of the rare occasions of Apple missing by a mile. Give it a miss.

.Mac will serve you well if you have more than one Mac computer (one at home, one at work(PC's too because of the iDisk)) I use it as a central storage location.

The way it is integrated into the OS X system and Apple software (iLife) is extremely convenient and simple. You can do a lot, I still haven't used all of it yet.

I sometimes think the price is high(like every year when renewal comes around), but it has proven itself to be very useful.

Yes, if you look around, you can find most of the services offered via .Mac somewhere, but not in one location, and certainly not as effortlessly integrated into the system.

For personal web sites it is great and iWeb is easy and powerful.

I still have my old pre-iWeb site there (many TB visitors):

I used the trial, used it to back up my stuff, it was nice for that. I didn't use much else at that time, but have since trial expiration found more uses. Also, the tutorials sound like they could be helpful.

The convenience and the fact it's all in one place seems very nice.

i use it for its convenience. i used to have hosting at another place but i started to miss having my iCal, Mail, and addresses centrally located on a website that i could get to from anywhere. it's pricey but to me it's worth it.

i have my website on a .Mac account but i use domain forwarding because the .Mac URLs are attrocious.
