Mac or PC?

I have had both all my life. The differences between them are very personal. OSX is, I feel, more intuitive. For those that have grown up or learned to use a computer through Windows then it will take a little getting used to, no doubt.

Call me lucky, but I've never had virus or instability issues with any of my PC systems. I run Reason on both machines and Ableton 5 on my PC with no issues whatsoever.

That being said, my Macbook Pro has blown me away. In the desktop market I think the gap between Mac and Windows isn't as significant. the laptop market, however, is no contest.

Sure -but it's the same look and feel - you have the other OS running along side your current one. It just runs better if the OS can run native on the processor. In any case, Macs and PC, Windows, Linux, BSD,... all can do it.

Only you can't get a legal copy of OS-X for anything other than a Mac. It has nothing to do with the hardware as some have suggested. Apple wouldn't be able to compete with Dell and other PC makers, if they sold the OS for PCs it would be bad for their hardware sales. I'm not saying it's bad - Macs are build really well as far as PCs go.

The trick is just keep XP off the internet, and thus get all that other baggage - Security, Anti-virus, Firewall, spyware, ... off the system. My music XP doesn't crash, it boots in 30 seconds. I have no issues using it live. If you need to get on the internet to register software, etc. then setup a dual boot on the PC - one instance of XP for the internet, the other for music only. BTW - do the same for any other OS you're going to use - they all carry extra baggage.

+1 That's what I do. My audio PC never gets connected to the internet and is tweaked for audio use. I don't think however, you have all these issues with a mac.

The OP's original question should not have been been "Mac or PC?",

The original question should have been this.

Should I pick:

A. Mac OS X + Windows on the same machine (any Intel based Mac desktop or laptop)

-or-

B. A Windows only machine (Dell, Gateway, HP, eMachines, build-your-own, etc)

That's really the two choices. It's not Mac VS PC so much as it is Mac + Windows together vs Windows only.

its going to be a while until i can afford a mac with at least 2 gig ram capacity with the intention of upgrading in the future. Right now my sights are set on the Mac as far as having peace of mind onstage, but technology could make a change for the better in the next year of making computer that would make me think otherwise.
