Over the past year or so they have become practically evangelical about open source...even making the long-secret code to their main programs (including Windows) open to open-source projects.

Why would you want a glass touchpad?
The rumor is that it will use the multi-touch function just like the iPhone and iPod Touch. That would be VERY cool.
I did some researching after I posted. It looks like a cool idea, but the rumours I saw described a "tablet" type thing, no keyboard or anything. Basically a screen and that is it, with touch capabilities. It sounds like a cool idea but if they are going to do that I would like to see it as a new product, not a new generation of Macbook.
I meant they are no longer anti-open source. I think they are also not worse than Apple when it comes to DRM. You must admit when you look at their products and what they try to prevent users from doing with them that Apple is among the worst for making their stuff proprietary.
Isn't it ironic that you can do all that and yet Apple still won't let you build your own superior machine for much cheaper and install a copy of OSX on it?

Tbf I support their policy of not allowing Mac OS to be installed on 3rd party machines. Not because I'm elitist or any of that crap but purely because I think the best thing about Mac is that the OS and hardware are made by the same company. I like that they're built for one another. And, IMO at least they excell in both fields.

So you support complete monopoly without other companies providing competition which in effect would drive down prices and increase quality even more?

As far as I'm concerned mac hardware isn't all that badly overpriced if at all. Not when you do fair comparisons with equivalent hardware. They do overchanrge on things like RAM but that stuff you can buy 3rd party and you're not forced to use apple only software...
I suppose it's a bit like the whole rickenbacker thing in a way.
And I dunno if you could call it much of a monopoly, I mean lets face it - in the computer world there arent many companies who havent at least TRIED to monopolise. It's their OS, and they want it run on their machines. Fair enough I say. Don't like it? Don't buy one and instead run FreeBSD on a custom built box or something.
