"Macho-ness"

It seems like a lot of guys seem to be into the whole "man-card" thing. Some, however, take it way too seriously. I'm not talking about guys on this board (at least most anyway), but what I've heard from guys on campus. These are your typical guido/macho gym-going guys. Some great gems include:

"If you haven't ****ed at least THREE chicks, you're still a virgin!"

"If you play guitar hero, halo, or world of warcraft, you are a ****** and should turn in your man-card"

Seriously, it seems like the guys who do this are some of the most insecure pricks I've ever met, and they try to make up for said personality deficits by being as sexist, racist, homophobic, and generally a-holish as possible.

The problem is that too many guys equate "macho-ness" with "being a complete chauvinist jerk".

Someone who is secure in his masculinity doesn't need to treat others dismissively or poorly - he simply goes his own way and is courteous to others.

Interesting, I didn't know that it referred to Italian males. Around my college campus, "guido" refers to those guys (of any race) who juice it up when they hit the gym, date-rape women, generally treat people like crap, etc. They do seem to dress the same though: popped collars, orange tan, greasy spiked hair.

I've said some pejorative things to others but it's almost always been in good fun...there were a few times when I got a little heated and the situation called for it, but here's a little tip - usually it's just as a joke, in which case feel free to laugh. Any other time it's just because the macho chauvinist is insecure (probably about his 2" member) so go ahead and feel free to laugh at that too! Either way you're getting a kick out of it, right?

here in Southern California (and I'm sure in plenty of other places) they're called "douches"...as in, "that guy looks like a total douche"

douchery runs high in certain parts of town here.
