"Macho-ness"

Since when was guido a race?

Guidos, AFAIK, are those tool-bags who exhibit those qualities listed above.

YES thats the description for all these guys in my school. Damn I'm Italian (Dad is born in Italy, hell I have thicker Italian blood than most of these guys) and I always see these guys wearing Italy stuff acting all like that. Clubbing, jelling their hair, its so stupid. It makes it almost look like if your Italian you have to do that **** that I love Italy but thats a poor representation of what the culture is. For the record a lot of the other guido likes aren't Italian too.

I'm just yanking your chain!

I got some funnier ones if you wanna see em

I was going to point this out, too. It's already been done, but it bears repeating. I might even +1 it again later in this thread or another.

Please see:

Interesting, I didn't know that it referred to Italian males. Around my college campus, "guido" refers to those guys (of any race) who juice it up when they hit the gym, date-rape women, generally treat people like crap, etc. They do seem to dress the same though: popped collars, orange tan, greasy spiked hair.

Please see:
Saw it.

Although you made mention that it applied to "any race", your description pretty much solidly fit a particularily annoying subset of white males. Surely you can see how it would look if someone else casually explained that, where they are from, it's OK to refer to a subset of annoying people from a particular race (this one without the orange tan, propped up collars and greasy spiked hair) by a derogatory term. Add to this your previous posts/threads, some of them quite heated, about race and stereotypes, and you should see where I'm headed.

I'm not much for apologies but here goes: Sorry, I find this funny on a few levels.

Are you implying that you, as a white male, am offended by the term "guido"? (or, rather, what you're really doing is borderline personally attacking me, nice efforts at tiptoeing around the TB rules).

If you want to go that route, fine. But notice that you mention a SUBSET of "white males". The stereotypes that I usually speak out against paint an ENTIRE race of people as "this or that". I'll throw one out there: ever heard of the "Ricer" stereotype? Originally it was coined to refer to a subset of Asian males (with similar personality characteristics as the "guidos") who would install huge spoilers and "NOS" stickers on their stock import cars that had no performance mods and think that they were all that. THAT is more of a fair analogy. I am not saying things like "all white males are _____" as opposed to all those who say "well all Asians are ______".

Get it?

Or, as you so cleverly put it to me before, can we not see the forest through the trees?;)

I clearly stated that I found your use of the term amusing, not insulting to me.
(or, rather, what you're really doing is borderline personally attacking me, nice efforts at tiptoeing around the TB rules).
Let's get this out of the way. If I want to personally attack you, there won't be any tiptoeing around rules. I'll call you a cock-knocker, back it up with a bit of empirical evidence that involves both cocks and knocking, and be done with it. When that post shows up, feel free to say that I'm personally attacking you.

Until then, let's assume that I don't get worked up enough about most of this crap to get to the point of personally insulting anyone, with one exception I won't waste time here on.

Without putting words in your mouth, it seems as though you're saying it's OK to run with the stereotype of a subset of a race? More on this later....

Yes. Subset stereotyoes are fair game. Ya got that, Jews?

Or, as you so cleverly put it to me before, can we not see the forest through the trees?;)
You must be tired carrying that grudge all the way from August.

Oddly, it's still applicable, so I guess your efforts weren't for naught. My point was simply that I find it fairly amusing that you would use a term that negatively refers to a cultural group. I still do.:)
