Thanks Walter...that is a good tip. As for the o-rings...I think part of it is a guitarist who has a new amp/new guitar/and new level every gig. I will look into that though.

Had a show last night with a killer RCF house system and presonus board. The sound guy's ipad lost the connection and he had to power off the system and reboot-I don't feel so bad now ha ha.
used my band's system last night, our first time doing our own sound since the latest update:
love it!
the parametrics on the outs are so much easier to use live, if there's an annoying something in the sound, i can just create a notch then slide it along until the annoying frequency zone goes away.
the HPFs/LPFs let me create proper rolloffs for the monitors as well as set up a more legit subs+tops crossover.

i used the "modern" parametrics.
i suppose the simpler "vintage" EQs would be OK for channel inputs if you weren't comfortable with the real thing, but not for outputs, they're not close to enough control.

also, after fiddling with those "vintage" output EQs (out of curiosity, after reading the above post), i found an annoying problem with them; the "curve" in the display window disappears, so you can't even see what the results of your tweaks look like unless you switch back to the "modern" parametric, which will have been changed 
and, the LPF disappears.

I am busting this to the top because I was finally able to use my DL1608 for the first time at a rehearsal today. Even after being super geek and playing around with master fader for a long while now, it was impressive just how easy it was to USE while playing and singing and all. My Yamaha powered box PA has been faithful for a lot of years now, but this is light years ahead. I can't wait to actually use it at a show.

The LPF is still there when you click the vintage eq. It has preset frequencies. Might make it easier if you are matching crossover points.
You are correct Walter...my mistake (that's what I get for relying on my "memory" ha ha). I am not a "soundman", why would you need to use a LPF if you have the HPF and eq in use? Not being a wise guy, I am just wondering?

somewhere around 100Hz seems to be the standard crossover point for 2-way "reflex 18s under 15+horn tops" bar band PAs. (and that has to be "80hz or 100hz" LPF on your subs, or they wouldn't be subs. there might be a built-in 30 or 40Hz HPF in the subs to keep the speakers from blowing up, though.)
the LPF would be for making an aux into a "subwoofer out", so that you would only be sending everything below the filter point out of that aux and into the subs.
it might also be useful for "narrowing" vocal wedges, where you don't need anything past the range of the vocals, maybe 12k or so.
it's confusing because we hear "low pass filter" and we think that it's filtering out lows, when it's the opposite! "high cut filter" would make more sense to me, but that's not how they say it.

What is a fair price for a used, no-warrantee 1608? The local pawn shop is advertising them at $899, but for that price I'd just buy new and get a warrantee. They also have "compatible iPads starting at $449".
Amazon has the mixer and bag, new for $999.
Hate to haggle, but would get it if I could save $200 off of new. Reasonable or not?

you can get the mixers new and legit for that money, and i scored a pristine ipad 3 for $350 almost a year ago. ipad minis and 2s will work fine (you want something that will take IOS7, so ipad 1s are now out).
I paid under $750 shipped for a "used" one from a mackie dealer through the eBay - it looked like it'd barely been opened; the power adapter was still in its plastic, factory coiled-up, the tape was still on the plastic bag around the mixer itself. So $900 for one that's really been actually USED is a lot too many dollars. If you're in need of an iPad, a factory refurb from Apple is the way to go if you can't find something reliable on Craigslist.

Looked at a unit today. Local place said they would go down to $760 for a new DL1608, with warrantee.
Almost bought it on the spot, but decided to wait until my band is ready to play, and has a gig, which is at lest two months away, at this rate...

Ooh-good price. I would buy sooner than later so you have time to mess with it and set your initial settings.
Buy it. Mackie is running a $100 mail in rebate right now on any buy of a new DL, form is available on their website. Would make a great price even better.
