Double Bass Mackie SRM 150

The people at mackie also produced a cheaper version of this powered monitor with the same bi amping,EQ controls,15'' speaker wedge monitor. It is called the tapco thump th-15a.
I bought one and it is great, especially the sound pressure level factor which i heard on this site is much more important than watts.
At a theatre near me they have proper mackies and the engineers and also a performer i talked to after a concert were very pleased with the the sound quality..

Thanks for the reply. I thought I was being ignored. Anyway, this one has a 5.25'' speaker. The SPL is 90dB/W/m. Max advertised as 120dB. Power is 100W RMS. However the frequency response is 90Hz - 20kHz. Dunno if it is good for double bass. So, if anyone here has experience with this loudspeaker, please place your views forward.

I've never used the Mackie, but personally I don't think that you should look at it this way. The frequency specs generally indicate the range of the cabinet in which the output remains relatively flat. There might be output down to 41 hz, just attenuated beyond a given threshold. Is a flat output accross the whole range necessary? Maybe, maybe not. The cabinet is going to interact with the amp, which interacts with the pickup, which interacts with it's placement on your bass, etc. Unless everyone of these points is flat, then all that matters is HOW they interact. A boomy pick up might sound better through a bass-shy cabinet, etc.

Most rooms I play in are not designed with live music in mind. The low frequencies build up in corners. I usually end up high-passing around 100hz or higher sometimes. I have a mic with a HPF that begins at 250hz and it sounds great on my bass. It all depends...

My Bergantinos' published specs don't go down to 41hz, and I couldn't care less. They sound great to me.

Was that a 5.25 inch speaker I read!! Thats not much to handle bass freqEncies is it? I use the EQ to boost a bit at 80 hz and in the mid range at about 300-400. There is boost and cut also at 12k but that is irelevant for DB

I may be wrong, but I believe these are designed to be primarily vocal monitors. Not for getting sound to the house, and almost certainly not for bass.

Of course it's bigger, heavier, and has a different feature set, but FWIW Larry Grenadier reportedly uses an SRM350 1x12 powered monitor mounted on a high stand. Of course, that's just his monitor, and the house PA is doing the heavy lifting.

For a typical casual gig on DB though, it might work well. Might be worth a search thru this forum if the size of the 350 is still within your "acceptable" range.
