Mad Max: Fury Road

I thought it was one of the most rubbish films I've ever seen. Most of my friends disagree with me however. Tom Hardy was wasted, and apart from Charlize, the acting was just awful. It made Tank Girl look awesome. The first Mad Max is a classic, but it's been downhill ever since.

Now that I think on it.... I think you're right. Tank Girl was better....

I watched it again this weekend. It's still awesome.

The wife and I did the same the previous weekend. I've got a penchant for post-apocalyptica and had seen it in the theater where I absolutely loved it. The second time was no exception. It's the spectacle of Beyond Thunderdome, but entirely rooted in the soul and soil of The Road Warrior. I do think it could have been called Furiosa Road though. Max is really second fiddle to the Furiosa's story.

My wife had never seen any Mad Max films and was severely skeptical, but she loved it and was really impressed with some of the feminist aspects/messages of the film. I'm eagerly awaiting potential sequels which are rumored to include a movie focused entirely on Furiosa.

Loved the movie, but am sick of hearing about how feminist it is. Why can't a movie with a badass female lead just be a movie with a badass female lead? No, everyone has to make it political and blah blah blah. Not directing this at anyone here, but just scroll through the thread and see how many times the word comes up, it's just... Gah.

My wife brought it up, and I think she did so because it's still fairly rare to have a female action hero who:
-carries the plot of the film movie as much (or more) as the male lead
-is just as tough/badass as the guys
-doesn't dress like a fashion/swimsuit/latex/bondage model
-doesn't constantly find herself in need of rescue by a man.

When that kind of protagonist heroine becomes a normal occurrence you'll find folks less apt to slap the label "feminist" on an action film with a strong woman lead...

...or when women get paid the same as men for the same work. Whichever comes first.

I agree. As I wrote somewhere earlier, it's just a B movie with a big budget.

I'm not big on action movies but was curious how it managed to be so critically praised, as action movies rarely are. I loved it. The practical effects and action reminded me of how action movies used to be...any CGI they used blended well and didn't seem unnatural. I loved the characters precisely because they were under-developed...they left me wondering where the hell they came from (apparently the main villain was a major character in the Mad Max comic book) and I liked not knowing too much...its an action movie!

I was flipping channels last night and landed on the Mad Max Fury Road movie, never saw it before..the Best parts for me was the crazy guy playing guitar on front of the monster truck..he was awesome! He was really into it...
