Fairly productive today- came up with these three solo pieces that I'm pretty happy with. All are made in one take as usual using my Looperlative.

They're all pretty different- "The March To War" was all thought out ahead of time- different sounds were supposed to represent the gathering of footsoldiers, wardrums, the distorted solo was meant to sound like a general speaking to the troops in a hollow way- saying lots of words with feeling but not much behind it (kinda wish I threw in more mindless fast passages now), harmonic bends to sound like howls, etc. etc. "How Not To Make A Song" was the opposite- I was very much sleep deprived- had just hopped out of the shower and was going to take a nap, but grabbed my bass instead. Kinda silly, nothing planned out, but I kinda liked the outcome anyways. "Bedtime for Bella" was a little lullabye I made for my daughter.

Made another piece, but it's too disorganized to post- I'll try to make a good version of it tomorrow.

Just thought I'd share :)

Very groovy! My favorite is "How Not To Make A Song".

I really enjoy creating music by layering bass tracks; however, I don't have the gear that makes it so easy.

I have an 8-track, so I have to lay down tracks individually. I have an Autumn Leaves sample on my website.

I did some other tunes were I messed around with altered tunings and harmonics. These were inspired by Jeff Schmidt. I didn't keep track of what I was doing with my tunings so I couldn't re-create those recording, but I loved the process.

Thanks for posting your new creations. It's really inspiring to see and hear you paint with sound.

Thanks for the comments, guys.

Joe- that's a sweet little sample- post the whole thing for us to hear! That and Little Sunflower are two standards that I've always wanted to do in a solo/looped context, but haven't done it yet. Jeff has an amazing solo version of Little Sunflower that I recently heard, although I have a more laid-back way of playing it in mind.

As for "Bedtime for Bella," it's very simply put together- it's in D, the background chord is just a double-stop playing D and F#, and the two main chords are just D and Bminor.

Thanks Bryan, I really appreciate it. I wasn't able to post the entire file due to the restrictions on the size of our free tripod website.

I just started working on my own website tonight and I'm going to post a bunch of my mp3's. I will absoultely include Autumn Leaves.

Thanks again,
Joe

hey great work on those songs! i really like them, especially bedtime for donna that was beautiful :)
i've really been inspired by your recordings, i feel like making another one of my own when i get the time! thanks again for your positive comment, peace

Here is the link to my MP3's. On this page you find the entire arrangement of Autumn Leaves. I hope you enjoy it. I got my new website up; however, it isn't very developed just yet. I hate that tripod won't let you link directly to files and images. I guess I would have to pay to get that feature. Anyhow...

Good stuff there, Joe! Particularly Nadia's Theme and Pulse.

Thanks for listening Bryan. I appreciate your kind words. I believe the music we create is a reflection of our humanity. It always feels good when someone hears music I have created and has a positive response.

I have always enjoyed visiting your website and checking out your audio/video clips. I notice that for your new recordings, you give your basses equal time. If I remember correctly, you recorded each piece with a different instrument. Did you plan it that way?

Thanks,
Joe

Pretty much. While all of them are similar in make, they're all capable of very different sounds, and each has a different feel (and scale length for that matter!). Picking up a different one inspires different playing, and back when I had an A/B input switcher, I even enjoyed switching between basses for different parts within a song. I'll have to get another one of those :)
