Made a bass for my son.

Here are some more pics and dimensions. Pictures are kind of blurry due to a failing lense.
I actually sat down with it this evening and played it through my old Yamaha practice amp and it sounded really, really big.
My dislike of sanding wood is apparent as well.

Countersunk stainless steel decking screws.

Used an old saddle from an EBO - copy bridge for a string tree. Nut is a glued in piece of maple. Solid maple 1 piece neck.

Last after dinner he played a song he made up on the spot for his Mom, and it was so good. I admit to being a little teary eyed. I am going to try and get him to do it again, but like most artists he is tempermental and needs to be inspired first. All in all, this is going to be a positive thing for this little guy. He took it to show and tell at preschool yesterday and it was a big hit. Wish I could have been there.
If playing bass sticks with him then RIGHT ON! If not oh well. Honestly I do not care what he does, if he wants to rap, play the keytar, ballet, gymnastics, interpretive dance, whatever, I got his back. Although, I hope people reading this do not think that the " you're a great dad" comments have gone to my head. Because if being a good Dad was as easy as making a toy bass then life would be so simple for us parents.
If anybody wants to try making something like this for their kid and needs help from a C- woodshop student I would be glad to help!
TalkBass is such a rad forum, and a great resource. I have learned a lot just reading and lurking here, high five TB'ers!
