Made in Indonesia

Seriously!

I bought a Skyline JO for my kid that is FAR superior to anything in its price range. Fit and finish, quality, feel and playability are unmatched. You would be floored to find out how many guitars and basses are built there and quite frankly, it really doesn't matter where it's built. It would be nice to be able to buy local, but when I compare the JO to say a Fender at the equivalent price, there is just no contest.

I visited a few local stores recently and found out that Indonesian made basses had better wood and wood craft than the chinese basses I found. Perhaps they really do have better tone woods or they need to show up as a new manufacturer or both. What ever the reason is the Music Man style basses they make these days or Squiers - they all are really nice instruments. Especially for their price tag.

Where do I find these Moon Basses??

I believe Tranquility was the first Moon Bass back in 1969

In my experience the Indonesians use better materials than the Chinese, but the build quality is about the same.

I have two Squiers, a Vintage Modified Jazz, and a Vnitage Modified Precison, bought new earlier this year, both made in Indonesia, cost me $299 and $279 respectively. Both are about as well made as you could expect and both compare favorably to American Fenders I own/have owned.
Bottom line, IMO, is that the country of manufacture is largely irrelevant, and not the best indicator of quality.

Yeah, I had an Indonesian Squier P Bass Special, Standard Series for a few years, and it was a really good instrument - once I upgraded the electronics... Also, my Squier VMJ is Indonesian, and it's well made, too - both were well worth more than I paid for them, and better than *some* MIM Fenders I've checked out...

It depends on the QC management between the bass company and factory.

Lakland Skyline are made in Indonesia but all their basses will have a QC check and electronic installation in their USA Chicago base. So I kinda convince myself Lakland Skyline is Made in Indonesia+USA

This. Quality Control is key. I have played a lot of good Indonesian guitars/basses by various manufacturers and they either did setup/inspection in the US or had a strict setup/inspection from the factory(Most Ibanez's I have purchased actually came with the itemized checklists for QC)
