Make a 115 cab a 210 cab...

I've done something similar, but it was modding a guitar 6x12 into a bass 2x15. It only worked because originally the company that made the cab used the exact same box for both their 6x12 cab and their 2x15 cab, so I just went with the existing 2x15 design.

You're charting more uncertain waters here. It may work, but then again, it may end up sounding like utter crap.

I'd replace the 15 that's in there. Keep in mind, switching drivers in a bass cab is not like switching strings, or pickups. Cabs are designed for the drivers that are in them. You can't just plop a new speaker in there and expect it to sound good. Sometimes you'll get lucky and it will, but oftentimes it won't sound good at all.

As others have said, getting accurate measurements on the internal volume of the cab, plus measurements for any porting that there is, is vital whether you just replace the driver, or mod it into a 2x10 cab.

Yeah, I think I'm going to go ahead and replace the woofer with an Eminence Delta15LFH. Then depending on the sound I"ll either sell it or I'll sell my Peavey Tour 115 that's also upgraded with an Eminence speaker (3015lf). I've been looking at BFM enclosure designs since last night and I think I'l go that route with the OmniTop 12 since they're supposed to be easy to build.

The Delta 15LF only goes up to about 3.2khz...

The kappalite 3015LF only goes up to about 1.5khz.

That's basically no highs whatsoever.

You're speaking that stuff to me man, I ain't got no clue fa whatchoo talkin' bout.....

The cab currently has a tweeter in it, that should suffice for the highs right? What value should I look for to get a more well-rounded speaker?

He's saying the LF models don't do mids and highs so well. That's where a lot of your tone and articulation lies. From eminence, the Legend cb158 or the kappalite 3015 (non-LF) would likely be better candidates but I wouldn't go buying anything until you get the thing measured and see what you have to work with there.

I see, thank you for the explanation. Well, I like the price of the Legend Cb158 a little better than the kappalite, although when the pro audio guys installed the kappalite in my Tour they only charged me $150(???). I should have the measurements tonight...

How long ago did you have the kappalite installed? Prices of drivers with neodymium magnets have gone up recently.

I'm going to get take it apart in a few days and get the. Measurements like you suggested. Right now the cone needs to be replaced, but I've come to dislike 115 setups and would prefer a 210 or 212 setup. I'm sure I don't have enough space for a 212 setup. I wouldn't mind a 4ohm cab if it's difficult to find decent speakers for it.

Eminence Betas will help you keep the Ampeg "thump", although, if you need it to be an 8ohm cab, and are looking for some topend whatever you're stacking it with doesn't have....these look interesting to me, and not expensive either. http://www.faitalpro.com/en/products/LF_Loudspeakers/product_details/index.php?id=401040101
