make my bass a string through?

IMHO, there is absolutely zero difference in tone between a string-through and a top load bridge. Don't waste your time.

The only difference I've found is that a string through bridge helps make a nice break angle for intonation, that's all.

Honestly, I just got a string through bridge, marked the holes in a 2x4 and drilled it first, checking the lineup, then used the 2x4 as a guide for my holes when drilling the body. The holes might have been off by a millimeter, but it isnt a big deal to me. Install ferrules and you are done.

I did a string threw on my mim jazz. Can't really tell a difference I just did it to do. But the only problem I had was a fat chip of the paint came off and some wood with it. I don't care cause I got it for free and I modded the heck out of it anyways. So if you don't care what the finished pruduct is going to look like do it.
