Making my bass cool and unique.

Does anyone have any ideas how i could my bass even cooler than it already is and unique also?

Change your name to james jamerson and start using a P.
You could also change your name to Jaco Pastorius , and play a J.
Or you could change your name to any name of one of the "greats" whose stock basses bacame /becomes great and unique/special by being played by a musician making it so.

I guess youz get my point(?)

Well, try playing on that level or raise it to the next. If you have the sweetest sounding bass with the most killer of looks, but have sloppy hands and irritating music, then it's good as trash. Not to sound harsh but a good tool means nothing if you don't know how to use it (I did get that from the porn industry).

Wow. I'm used to people on TB talking about upgrading pups, putting on some hipshop tuners, replacing pickguards, and getting a baddass bridge. I mean the "Technique" forum hardly ever has activity in it. The "basses" forum is always swarming with discussions along the lines of the OP.

I've never modified a bass and only own one that costs more than $400. I am completely of the mindset that a great bass player can make the cheapest/plainest/ugliest basses sound incredible. But what's wrong with a kid who wants to have some fun and do something different with his bass too?

I think the zodiac basses already look pretty damn cool as is. I wouldn't suggest any changes to its appearance. As far as any of the hardware... I know nothing about that.

I remember seeing a guy cover his guitar in suede and that looked really really cool. Don't cover it in fur (I saw a drumset covered in purple fur once)... not so cool.

Stickers, paint something stupid on it, hmmm

BTW. Guys, instruments become unique not only by it being played.. Come on, be serious. Everybody knows James Hetfield, right?? and his famous ESP

Now, what i am saying, is that u can make an instrument unique, bu thats not necessarily means that its going to be famous. YOU make it famous, but what u put on it or the way it looks is going to make it unique..

Oh god, send it to IbanezCollector (member on here who does this professionally) for a relic finish. Please.

I'm a lefty but for some reason, when I saw the Zodiac I thought it'd look sooo awesome with a relic finish.

If you don't what I'm talking about, just say it. I'll go into detail. :p

Carefully remove the neck, all hardware, and electronics from the body.

Randomly sand off large areas of finish.

With a paintbrush and brightly colored paint, paint something stupid on it.

Being careful not to damage the neck joint, hack the bass into 3 pieces with an ax.

Fit the pieces back together as best you can - there will be gaps now - and nail it back together. Get some thick metal strips from a hardware store, the kind with holes you can put the nails through, and use these to hold the chunks of bass together. I've seen a picture of something like this, but can't find it at the moment.

Put it back together as best you can. If you did it right, it will look...unique, still be playable plus give you splinters and maybe electric shocks randomly, which will add excitement and spontenaiety to your playing. For extra points, stick some battery operated Christmas lights to it with duct tape.

Oh, and use a homemade barbed wire strap. You'll wand to wear a thick leather jacket, unless you're truly hard core.

That will be unique and cool.

Glad to help.
