So....., I was thinking of making my P active. I've been looking at getting the body routed and tossing in an Audere pre with a Nordstrand NP4. Sure sounds cool on paper. What do ya'll think?

I've done the OBP-1 route before and really liked the results. it's a fairly simple mod:
* dual battery box on rear + wire tunnel to control cavity
* small route under pickguard for the OBP-1
* replace original Vol knob with a stacked Vol / Passive tone control
* replace original tone control with a stacked Bass / Treble control
* add an on/on micro switch to the pickguard to bypass the pre-amp if/when desired
Minimal routing work, minimal expense, minimal visual ability to see it's not a stock P-bass from a distance ... maximum flexibility from a tried and true workhorse

If considering something as significant as routing the body, I'd make changes one at a time, i.e. reduce the number of variables. I'd make sure I found the pickups I liked first (maybe they'll even make everything alright by themselves) and then if still not happy, route the body for a preamp.

Well I ordered the Nordstrand weeks ago, but am still waiting for it (ordered a custom version that allows series/parallel switching). I'll pop that in first and then consider the pre-amp upgrade.
