Male Vocalists You Can't Stand

Benjamin Kowalewicz- Billy Talent(less), This whole band makes me physically ill, but the singers voice makes me want to poop in my hand and fling it any time I hear them

Dave Mathews- WE GET IT YOU'R UNHAPPY, now sit in a nice hot bath and cut your wrists, always remember , along the road , not across the path

Andre philip Gagnon- Canadian Musical impressionist , would be ok , but he does every voice with a bloody french accent

Any cookie monster/screamo singer- Take a laxative and relax guys , the poo will come naturally

My drummer and lead singer- i have TRIED , GOD how i have tried to teach these guys thirds and fifths when backup singing to no avail. It took for a while , now they have just reverted back to competing in the same range, making everything sound like swamp mud, I gave up and don't even bother trying to do backups anymore, I will just hide behind a speaker I guess

I don't want to discount their talent, but there's a few vocalist whom I just can't understand somebody thinking they can sing...

Bob Dylan
Tom Petty
The Counting Crows guy
Neil Young

I like at least one John Mayer song, but I every other song, I just can't stand that whisper-singing he utilizes.

My other pet-peeve with vocalists is excessive vibrato. I hear some vocalists who almost pitch up a full step and it's just aggravating.

Quite a few of these are really bad. But if I could choose one, it would definitely have to be Dave Matthews. I know his name has been mentioned several times, and rightly so. The fact that people subject themselves to listening to his annoying voice has to be one of those great mysteries of life.

I think anyone that's going to slag on (relatively successful) vocalists should at least sack up and say who they DO like. I think a "______ really sucks it" post should also include a "I really dig _______" comment too.

When I read posts from people who hate Plant or Springsteen, I always wonder who they like. (BTW I hate Springsteen :D ).

Dislike:

Nickelback idiot
Neil Young (but I like him as a musician)
Gavin Rossdale
Cookie Monsters

Like:

Plant
Trent Reznor
Maynard
Johnny Lang (and I'm not even a blues guy)
Freddy Mercury (and I'm not a big Queen fan)
Jon Anderson

Vomit-inducing sounds:

The singer in Foreigner (it's actually painful to listen to)
Eric Clapton
The singer in Lynyrd Skynyrd
The singer in Creed (mmmmmmrrrmmmmmmmrrrrrrrrrr)
The singer in Green Day (what a dweeb)
Bob Dylan (too whiney)
The Nickelback singer
Early Geddy Lee (when he sounded like a cat stuck in barbed wire)
Phil Collins
Bob Seger
Bruce Springsteen (always sounds like an old indian chief yelling)
Tom Petty
Rob Thomas (he always sounds like he's shivering to death)
Any rap or hip hop vocalist (well, they aren't actually singers anyway)
And anyone from American Idol (barrrrrf!!!)

Billy Corgan. He did an interview on Stern and sounded very thoughtful and vey smart. Great guy to hang out with. I just don't find his voice pleasing to the ear.

PS. I'm stunned by some of the selections in this thread. Axl, Petty, Hetfield. Wow! Tastes are across the board. That's why music is great. One man's trash is another man's treasure.
