I’m not seeing the bargains on basses, but I just got a heck of a deal on a Hartke 210 cab. Wife wanted it out of the basement. I was happy to oblige.

Yup, lots of people buying guitars during lockdown and now looking to sell.
It’s weird the used market. Current tastes are factoring in too. I have one used bass up for sale and I know I’m under market and I’m having a slow time moving it. Oh well. Maybe trends will change again soon.
President’s Day sale from zZounds. $539 for a brand new Jack Casady Signature in Pelham Blue. On their Reverb page. I was watching it on sale at $599. They contacted me. I guess they got tired of watching me watch them?

I’ve played the same Warmoth pbass for 10 years. I recently got the bug for a few more strings. I was ready to pull the plug on a l-1000 750. Then Found a Rocco Prestia LTD for $720. Luckily it hits everything I wanted for 1/3 the price.
Funny how sometimes a deal falls in your lap when you’re not even looking.
I’ve always heard about deals at yard sales. Never has happened to me because I always forget about them and in my area they’re always Friday and Saturday (which is weird) and since I work in the Civil Engineering profession I’m going to miss out on any deals since they’ll be snatched up on Friday morning.
Got my American Fenders in the 1990s for reasonable prices:

Once I’d finished building a couple to the specs I wanted I realised I didn’t need any more basses. Now I just want to play them. No more GAS.
The major flaw in capitalism is the need for more as opposed to enough. As long as the system facilitates greed so readily it will continue without any understanding that growth cannot continue indefinitely.
We have a yard sale (not even an estate sale) nearby where the guy and his wife were selling everything prior to a move. Nothing of real note. Older Peavey amps, QSR PA, Squire bass and guitar. His problem was he was charging a bit too high.
There are very legitimate reasons for the price increases… but also a great deal of very “illegitimate” reasons. Yes, It’s an economic phenomenon but also a societal problem that the entire world is working though. Overall, I think the whole situation is really really sad. Phases come and phases go… hoping this “phase”’regulates sooner than later. And as someone already mentioned… it’s not just with guitars/basses… just look what’s happing with food and shelter!
I stopped buying and started building back around 2000.
I will probably stop acquiring basses when I quit this mortal coil, although there's always the chance I'll kick the bucket while I have one on order!

I think my last bass purchase was in 2012 - my last new bass purchase was 2011.
I've been interested in getting a 5-string Dingwall, but now that I've raised the funds, realizing that I really don't need it, and should really get a synth instead.

It’s funny. My two most favorite basses are the one’s I had modified. They’re now my two main axes. Hmm. Maybe I’ll do it again.

Parts can add up but all in all its still cheaper to mod and come up with something you cant just go out and buy.

So Anyway, I've bought three basses in the last couple of years...two new and one used. If I thought the prices were excessive, I would have stayed with my current basses.
The new ones were open box or demo from SW. They're fine instruments for the $600 range and I'm gigging with both of them.
The used one is a TB sale that I thought was a good value. I parted with my treasure, he parted with his...we're both happy.
I recently switched to short-scale, so I'm required to build a 30" inventory.
That's what I tell Mrs. Hurricane anyway.
