Man...I'm loving these AVRI62's!! Which strings?

They had already stood out to me for their clear punchy longevity with one set being on a jazz for almost 4 years now and still ringing clear and keeping pitch and intonation, but with the added no noise factor, I am going to restring everything with them now.

They also impressed me with less abrasion and no stickiness when moving quickly across frets for fast riff playing.

I also tried the various strings unplugged so the amp wasn't a factor in testing them.

Did you try D'Addario EXL Nickels? How do the GHS Balanced Nickels compare?

Some notes on different flats:

I like flats, even on a jazz bass. I have a set of Pyramid Golds on one jbass and Olintos on the other. The Pyramids string with more tension compared to the Olintos, which I prefer. They feel nice and smooth and are the brightest flats I play. The Olintos are really smooth--these are the best feeling flats I've played, though I haven't played lots. They have a rich, deep tone. Olintos have less tension. Personally, I wish they had a little more tension, but the tone is killer. On my pbass, I have LaBella DTFs -- the 760FS. I love these strings. They are four years old and have the thump. They're a heavier gauge than some other strings mentioned, but I like them. They also feel very smooth and feel like they have more tension.

just saying: tapes are rounds and a great option in particular for the jazz bass.

fwiw I have rounds on a j and a p and tapes on my fretless j and my fretless p.

I could see using flats on the fretless p or I could stick with tapes but I love the tapes and the rounds in general on both js.

also fwiw I use mutes liberally with rounds and find them a good platform generally to tone shape with mutes.

But now a month later I got this AVRI62 P Bass, it came with round wounds...I played it and it didn't squeak, and I realized it was mostly "me" that was the finger noise issue not the round wound strings...so here is my question:

Is the "P-Bass + Flats" and the "J-Bass + rounds" the classic combinations?

Right now it's backwards and I'd like ONE of these two to have round wounds (I think) just for variety...if you were to put the rounds on one of these two...which would it be?

AVri 62 come with Fender Original 62 P pickup , this pickups well match with La bella 760 flat .
Once broken in ~ heaven !

Love my AVRI 62 Jazz! I’ve got TI Jazz flats on it and it sounds really nice in the Fleetwood Mac tribute gig I’ve got. I use an acoustic 360 model with a bit of drive (nothing raucous, just enough for some presence and warmth).

I found flats to just be too woofy on precision though, so I’m back to EB slinkies on that guy.

But seriously, I like having a P with flats AND a P with rounds on a gig where I cover both sounds, I don’t have to re-eq the amp so much when I switch basses, when I was using a J and P on the same gig the EQ settings were too far apart. Less to worry about in the moment is better, for me.

Play the strings you like on the basses. Ignore the cliches. Your ears are probably different than others.

I know there is a huge amount of scatter and no 'one way' answer for this question, but ...
If we averaged all the different personal tastes, basses etc etc, would there be an 'average' trend that said, for example, 'P basses tend to be used with flats and jazz with rounds (for example?)
I am a compleat beginner but have experimented with rounds, flats, halfrounds/groundwounds, and pressurewounds and have found that it depends on which of my basses I am putting on them, (and even on my mood, like my music taste), but this is just a question to satisfy my curiosity

Hi there,
I have DR Sunbeams 45-105 on my 62 AVRI Jazz. I like the feel but I may switch the DR's out for a set of SIT Foundations in the same gauge. The SIT's have just a tinge more tension and more mids to my ears. I've also used good ole D'Addarios. I have a fresh pack of Rotos that I've wanted to try out but haven't gotten there yet! ;)

I really like the burst on your '62 Precision! :) My 62 Jazz is a burst as well but doesn't have as much red in the pattern. It's more of a tobacco sunburst.

Have tried just about every flat on a jazz bass. I think Cobalt flats sounded the best but best overall are TI Flats. Buy once, cry once

Best flats for P bass are pyramids. I will die on that hill.
